A little about me

Hello Blogging Community,
Just as a way to begin, I'm going to post a little bit about myself and what my blog will be about. This is really my first attempt at a blog so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. There is a good chance there will be some errors as I hate to proofread but I'm sure at some point each posting will be updated as my better half is a "grammar nazi." And I say this with all the love in the world. That grammar Nazi helped me pull up my gpa in collage by editing all of my papers.
Shortly after collage I moved to the desert to be with my than fiance and her family. Having little job experience and a collage degree seemed to be a death sentence. Positions in my field required prior experience. On the other side of things entry level jobs did not want to deal with me under the guise of "overqualified." What I later learned is that most collage graduates feel they are above doing menial tasks so they severely under-peform at entry level positions.
After weeks of canvasing businesses and applying to every location I could think of and find, I got a break. Said drugstore had an employee theft problem that opened multiple positions that had to be immediately filled, and that was my start. Once I got my foot in the door it really gave me the chance to display the work ethic my parents had instilled in me. I was promoted into the management program within the first three months. Unfortunately at this point I clashed with the new general manger(GM) of the store I was sent to. He was fairly influential in the district so over the next two years his poor reviews followed me around. Tying to make ends meet while supporting my wife, myself and at this point my daughter was getting harder and harder and I was not super confident that I would be keeping my job. That combined with falling education standards, gang violence, and violent pharmacy thefts in stores I worked at, my wife and I decided the best decision was to start over. I found a GM in the pacific northwest that was willing to offer me a position as photo tech. It was a step down and a paycut, but I figured it was income that would be coming in while I looked for a new job. When we moved my company was opening two new locations and during that time they let me keep my title and pay while I worked to help with successful timely launch's. During that time I was given the opportunity to excel and proved my worth. I was able to keep my position as management trainee.
Over the next two years I worked under a wonderful manager who coached my pitfalls and encouraged my strengths making me a well rounded manager and helped me get promoted to executive assistant manager.(EXA) (Later blog will cover this a bit more but the way you conduct yourself as a manager has a massive impact on the lives of your employees.) As an EXA i was moved to a store that was struggling due to staffing problems but with another highly engaging store manager who gave me the chance to lead. She stepped back where she could and allowed me to make choices and decisions and learn to deal with the benefits or consequences of my decisions. She also gave me credit for what I had done, both good and bad, but it was mostly good. After getting my PTCB certificate I was promoted again to take over my own store.
I currently work as a general manager of a drugstore. For the most part it is a very fulfilling job that I personally find a-lot of meaning in. That said there are many stresses and frustrating parts of the job. It is a highly competitive industry and we are constantly "under the gun" to perform. I only see my boss every other month or so but every single person I employee including my pharmacist affect my reviews, my bonuses and my pay. If anyone is unsuccessful, is effects me. We also have to deal with many governmental regulations and auditors, some which I completely understand.......and others that make me question what our tax money is really being spent on.
As a result of my life experiences I have become a very cynical person by nature. What I see I often view as black and white or common sense but I realize that it is only my point of view. I'm also, in my opinion, a confident brilliant businessman as my business continues to grow in success. This blog is my way to get my thoughts out without having to directly defend them to coworkers. There really will be no direction, and I will talk about everything from politics to drivers to work and family.
The cast of regular characters will include myself, my family and possibly my staff depending on where this blog goes. First of all my and my wife have been married for five and a half years, and while we have had our ups and downs we are very happy in our lives. Darling Daughter (D.D), who is everything we ever wanted, is turning 7 this year, while my son (J.R.) was just born.
As I stated earlier, this blog will realy include anything and everything and will mostly be me complaigning about people apperent lack of "common sense." I welcome any feedback good or bad and welcome healthy debate, just please be polite.
Thank you
"Akiero"
